MARY KAY INC. ANNOUNCES OPENING
Leading global direct seller of skin care and color cosmetics continues
DALLAS (September 10, 2003) – Mary Kay Inc., one of the largest direct sellers of skin care and color cosmetics in the world, continued its year-long 40th anniversary celebration today by announcing the opening of Mary Kay Poland, the company’s 34th international market.
“We are very excited about the opportunity to bring Mary Kay’s unparalleled career opportunity to the women of Poland,” said David Holl, president and chief operating officer. “Women from a variety of cultures throughout the world are embracing the Mary Kay career opportunity because it affords them the opportunity to own their own business, determine their own level of personal and financial success, and enjoy the flexibility of being able to set their own schedules while keeping their priorities in order.”
More than 1 million Independent Beauty Consultants are running their businesses in 34 markets on five continents. All Mary Kay independent sales force members purchase high-quality skin care and color cosmetics direct from the company at wholesale, then resell the Mary Kay® products direct to consumers at a retail price.
The company achieved another record year of results in 2002, generating nearly $1.6 billion in wholesale revenue, and is on pace to continue that momentum in 2003.
Mary Kay Poland, headquartered in Warsaw, will be led by General Manager Ewa Kudlinska-Pyrz, who has previously worked with other high-profile consumer product companies, including Clinique, Dior, Guerlain, Clarins and a chain of perfumeries, Ina Center.
“Polish women have a tremendous entrepreneurial spirit,” says Kudlinska-Pyrz. “As women in Poland begin to experience Mary Kay’s premium-quality skin care and color cosmetics products and have access to the excellent educational materials, motivation and rewards the company provides, we anticipate that Poland will quickly grow into one of Mary Kay’s key European markets.”
“We anticipate generating the same success in Poland that we are experiencing in other European markets,” added Tara Eustace, president of Mary Kay Europe. “The majority of Mary Kay’s European markets are experiencing record growth, and we now have more than 100,000 Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultants in the region.” In addition to Poland, Mary Kay’s other European markets include the Czech Republic, Germany, Kazakhstan, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, United Kingdom and Ukraine.
“From Europe’s western shores to Siberia and the Russian Far East, Mary Kay is providing women with the opportunity to own their own business and achieve things they never dreamed possible. It is very rewarding to watch the dream launched 40 years ago by Mary Kay Ash continue to enrich women’s lives around the world.” continued Eustace.
Mary Kay Poland will operate from offices located in Warsaw, occupying space on the main floor of one of the city’s newest office complexes. The office is located near the city center and in close proximity to public transportation. The company’s warehouse is located on the outskirts of the city, adjacent to major transportation arteries.
Mary Kay Poland will launch with a product line featuring more than 100 high-quality skin care and color cosmetics and body care products, headed by the company’s patented TimeWise® age fighting products. The company anticipates expanding its Polish product line in 2004.
“The opening of Mary Kay Poland is another important milestone as we work toward fulfilling Mary Kay Ash’s dream of making the Mary Kay career opportunity available to women worldwide,” noted Holl. “Mary Kay Ash was fond of saying, ‘It’s a good day if just one more woman finds out how great she really is.’ With this opening, a new nation of women can enjoy the personal and financial rewards that can come from owning their own Mary Kay business.”
